HI! My name is Sarah... Relevant info: 25, Ace, Hufflepuff... Virgo? Is that relevant? You can never be too sure. .........................................................................
I feel obligated to inform you that this is NOT a spoiler free zone. I am pretty good at putting down a blanket, "spoilers" tag but I'm not the best at it. I try but you have been warned.
Vague headcanon that Force-sensitive children have a tendency to start speaking late, since for a long time they just communicate via the Force. This goes double for Jedi younglings raised in the creche, since everyone around them is also Force-sensitive. But they start complete sentences sooner.
(I don’t know if this is really feasible, since I don’t actually, uh, know anything about children.)
Interestingly, you sometimes see a similar phenomenon in real-life child development. When you have two siblings who are very close in age (typically less than two years), the younger of the two will often be a late speaker; studies suggest that this is primarily because the younger sibling is able to rely on the older to play interpreter when communicating with adults, and thus experiences less pressure to improve their language skills quickly.
As a parent of two young kids, I have thought about this A LOT.
Nonverbal communication would DEFINITELY be a thing in the Creche, and you better believe it impacts their verbal language skills. I also think this would be a huge factor in why Jedi children are so much calmer - one of the primary causes of temper tantrums in toddlers and very young children is their inability to verbally explain what they are thinking and feeling. Add the volatile state of their rapidly developing brain chemistry and you get the Terrible Twos and Threes. My oldest had a meltdown just last night because he couldn’t find me and was unable to verbalize what he wanted or why he was upset. Jedi children would probably bypass that whole issue by being able to project their thoughts and feelings directly at the people they want to communicate with. End result - very calm children!
I bet they have incredible social empathy from an early age, too - no need to constantly remind Jedi children “don’t bite your friends”, because they probably get a mental projection from their first biting victim of exactly how it feels, and can very easily make the mental connection to “biting hurts”. That goes hand in hand with the Jedi philosophy of compassion, too. Wow, that ties together nicely!
Not to mention, the different species of children in the Creche with different physiological capabilities to get past in learning a common verbal language - not a problem with mental communication!
So this blanket I was crocheting? It’s done. It’s three feet by five, and it weighs fifteen pounds. It’s nearly an inch thick. I hope my brother and his wife appreciate this monstrosity.
It is a very simple, very dense, very warm blanket.
Guys, chochet is not hard. I learned how to crochet in the bed of a moving pickup truck. You can do this. If you want to make a big heavy blanket, just get some bulky yarn and go to work. You don’t have to count stitches or anything, so you can marathon netflix while you do. I made you a very basic tutorial on how to do this stitch. It’s super easy. Pardon my everything, I’m eating a cough drop and it’s 2 am.
The blanket was well received! My brother’s wife apparently hasn’t slept in bed since they got it because she keeps accidentally taking 10+ hour “naps” under the blanket on the couch after ER shifts. My brother says it feels both extremely warm and also ballistic-proof.
I started with knitting and for some reason, despite multiple attempts, crochet still hasn’t clocked for me. So I vicariously enjoy other people’s crochet.
I’ve tried to knit and it hasn’t worked out super well for me. What I like most about crochet is that a lot of stitches don’t require any sort of counting (or at least not beyond one-loop two-loop) so you don’t have to be thinking much about you’re doing. You mostly just match yourself to the work you’ve already done, which makes it easy to do while watching a movie or talking to someone. That’s a big bonus for my easily distracted brain!
but I would like to point out this is not just about this money, this is not just about the wall, this shutdown and this protesting against the wall is a statement against trump’s white supremacy.
The reason people are fighting it is because the fear-mongering alone is damaging to relations between people. It’s a statement of hate, and to reduce it to just a cost thing is to ignore why trump wants the wall in the first place
this isn’t representative of the people, this is a representation of the white supremacists that govern our country despite not winning the people’s vote.
they continue to make laws and structures that terrorize people
In fact, pretty much everything the GOP does is against the will of the people.
Most Americans support Obamacare, yet the GOP has repeatedly tried to overturn it.
Most support Net Neutrality, yet the GOP overturned it.
Even most gun owners believe we need better gun control regulations and don’t belong to the NRA, yet the GOP is busy sucking the NRA’s collective dicks.
When polled, most Americans are overwhelmingly in favor of most of the social welfare programs that the GOP devotes their time to trying to abolish.
Most support Mueller’s investigation, yet we all know how Trump and co. feel about that shit.
Most were opposed to the tax cuts and think we should do something about global warming.
And like you said, most Americans don’t want Trump’s fucking wall and want him to stop holding the country hostage to get it. Numerous news articles from people ACTUALLY living in these so-called besieged border towns have basically said we don’t want this wall nor do we need this wall.
If any of you were holding onto the idea that we live in a democracy, you should really let go of it.
This is why Pelosi knows she can’t cave in at any cost. If Trump wins this, it sets a precedent that any president, no matter which party, will use to hold the country hostage in order to get their way. It has to end here or it will never end.
